Here is the link to a fascinating and terrifying article from The Barnes Review about the so-called "Russian" mafia, so-called as its a misnomer. As the article points out, the Russian mafia is in fact a Jewish mafia, born in the gulags of the old Soviet system, and the beneficiaries of that system's black market. They are ruthless, much more so than their Sicilian and Irish counterparts in crime.

While the FBI and major media obsess about the Sicilian Mafia (the “Cosa Nostra”) a far more powerful and sinister force is in existence that has controlled most of the globe’s organized crime for at least two decades—the Jewish mafia from Russia (a “Kosher Nostra”). Yet there is not even a desk at the FBI for their crimes, which dwarf those of the Italian gangsters in scope, violence and depth.
